Culture Day - Sandringham

As we step into this week, we are meeting the year 7s at Sandringham for the third time, in three consecutive weeks!

They first got to experience our 'Who is Jesus' lesson, being given the gift of a Good News For Everyone Youth Testament.

We then had our first ever Culture Day at the school, during their Enrichment Week.

And finally, we get to talk to them this week about Parables, offering them an 'Explore the Bible' to help them start reading the Bible should they wish.

But, I would love to zoom into the Culture Day. The young people are able to celebrate cultures around the world and in the afternoon have the opportunity to reflect on the Christian view that they are created by God and how we can play a part in looking out for others.

One of my favourite parts was a boy coming up to me and saying:
'I have read Matthew, guess what? Jesus dies!' and then asking me how can get access to a 'Full Bible'.

But instead of me telling you about how great it was, here are some quotes from the students about what they enjoyed and learned from the day:

My favourite part of the day was...
'Exploring cultures and countries'
'Trying food that I hadn't tried before'
'I liked creating the hybrid animal'
'Meeting people from different countries'

Is there anything you learnt or that made you think differently today?
'Don’t judge a culture by its living conditions'
'What refugees have to go through to get to different countries'
'I didn’t realise refugees had to make so many difficult decisions'
'It made me feel grateful for the stuff I have'
'Be grateful and proud of my faith and culture'
'That the world is very diverse'
'I am unique'

Mary
