Introducing Prejudice to STAGS...
This week we have been running our Prejudice lesson with Yr7 students for the first time. This is an engaging lesson where students start by deciding who they would save in their lifeboat from the seven people looking for a space. The Yr7s have been getting enthusiastically involved in each lesson so far.
There have been some wonderful discussions and interesting insights in to why they would save certain people over others.
In one lesson the student guessed we were looking at discrimination from the game and then gave perfect examples from the characters they’d been looking at and where some of them may experience discrimination.
When it’s revealed half way through the lesson that we’re exploring prejudice and discrimination each group have reflected well on what things people may be discriminated for and how we can be a good ally to someone experiencing discrimination.
We look forward to seeing the final four classes over the next couple of weeks.
